Kidnappers Threaten to Invade Another School

Fear has gripped the management and staff of State Model College, Kankon, Badagry, having received two threatening letters from anonymous kidnappers.

From the two letters sighted at the entrance of the Principals of both secondary and primary school, a copy of the letters states "kidnappers are visiting the school the same way we did at Igbonla, Epe. We are going to capture three pupils from senior school and three from junior school. We are kidnapping both Principals". We are kidnapping in two days’ time. No security put in place will stop us from gaining entry and fulfilling our mission as stated in this letter. Be expecting us".

According to a Punch Correspondent, it was gathered that these kidnappers had abducted six pupils from Igbonla Epe, who have been in captivity for 28days. They promised to come into operation in two days’ time, and they were confident that no security would stop them from executing their plans.

A parent who visited her ailing son said she informed the Parents Forum Association Chairman when she stumbled on one of the letters at the entrance of the principal's office but confirmed the principal was not on seat as at that time. The government and security agencies immediately got alerted.

"A large number of policeman and soldiers were initially deployed in the school. Security vans patrolling the school surrounding" parent reports. Same parent said when she got back to the school again, the large number of policemen and soldiers deployed earlier reduced to just two because the stipulated day given by the kidnappers had elapsed.

It was also reported that as at yesterday, another parent discovered the threat was not being taken serious any longer as security provided by the government has reduced drastically.

There would be a need for massive security around the school premises because some internal contact could give more hands to these kidnappers, a parent lamented. Interrogating one of the two principals, Mr. Sunday Fadaunsi said they see these letters as a rumor. Both parents and pupils have been spreading it but no one can come up with the letter. When asked about the security level, he said, "The deputy governor is handling that"

The Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Steve Ayorinde said the government is aware and all measures have been put in place to ensure the security of the pupils, school and staff.

According to the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Olarinde Famous –cole "We are aware and the security agencies are on high alert and alive to their responsibility. Whether it is a threat or a prank, the Lagos State Government will not yield any of its schools or pupils to the evil machinations of kidnappers. We shall secure our schools and every pupil and tutor. The police and other security agencies are up to the task. This is an assurance to the Model College, Kankon, and the general public."

In connection with the case, the APC councillorship candidate's daughter, Bukola A deosun was allegedly kidnapped when she was sent on an errand with her younger sister to Shyllon Street, Ilupeju around 9pm on Tuesday 20th June 2017.

The victim's father Bode said the kidnappers called him with an hidden number around 1:30am, confirming that Bukola was with them. Bode believes the kidnapping has some political undertone since local council elections come up next week.
