A young mother just sent me this question and statefd that she and her husband have divergent views on it and they need advice since it is their first child. Someone directed them to the group. Her question is what is the right age to send the child to school. She runs a home based business and her hours are a bit flexible. According to her, they simply want to get it right. I trust our Early childhood educators and consultants would be able to advice the couple
There is certainly no need for the rush. I would have approved for Playgroup, if the couple have very tight work schedule. From ages 0-3, a child under normal circumstance should be in absolute custody of the parents. Considering also that the present New Nigeria School Curriculum allows for children to graduate into Basic 1, from nursery 2 and most school in Nigeria are graduating pupils into Basic 7, from Basic 5. There is certainly no need for further rush.

@ijeomaonyi I cherish your firm view on this issue and I also agree that a child from age 0-3 is supposed to be in the parents' custody. But what about the cognitive skills that early school starters develop simply through their interaction with others in school? Do you think the parents' company is enough for the child to learn such?
